The purpose of our Benevolence Ministry is to help meet the basic financial needs of people during a time of crisis or transition in their lives. We primarily achieve this through paying specific expenses for applicants at the direction of our Benevolence Team. Covenant Church seeks to make assistance available through other resources such as budget coaches, equipping classes and spiritual coaching.
We give priority to requests from Covenant Church members and attenders but consider requests from our local community when possible. Assistance is only available for short-term and immediate needs. We cannot provide long-term, emergency or repeated assistance; neither can we assist with bills that are over 60 days past due, childcare, medical bills, unsecured loans, taxes or legal expenses. All needs must be documented and easily verifiable.
Steps to Applying for Financial Assistance
A Church member, household or community member seeking assistance from the Benevolence Fund should take the following steps:
1. Persons requesting assistance must fully complete all sections of our Benevolence Application including providing all required supporting documentation. Incomplete applications and those without documentation will not be processed. A copy of a government issued photo ID must be included to confirm your identity. Click here to request an application.
2. Completed applications will be reviewed by the Benevolence Team and applicants may be contacted for additional information or to schedule a meeting. Utility companies, leasing offices, etc. may also be contacted to verify need and accuracy of documentation provided.
3. Those requesting assistance must also be willing to receive biblical, financial, family, or emotional counseling. You may be asked to meet with budget coaches or others to assist you with your finances. You may also be asked to meet with a member of our Ministry staff as part of the consideration process.
4. Applicants will be informed of the status of his/her application no later than (5-10) business days from the receipt of the completed application. Any assistance will be in the form of a check made out to the vendor, landlord, or other service provider. Cash will not be given nor will we issue money orders or cashier's checks.
