But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you;
~ Acts 1:8

The one thing that makes us all excited about the New Year is the opportunity to start afresh. It’s an occasion to do what you may have never done before or make changes that will elevate us to a new level in life. It’s a known fact that the one thing we all dread is “change”; yet it is the only thing that brings about progress. Change is what we need. Change is what we want.

Knowing that, we reluctantly chart our course towards a new destination. We write down our goals. We plan our work and work our plan. We feel hopeful, then inspired. We go to work. Change happens. Change is good! If change is good, why is it so hard to change? Do you feel like many times you have had enough training, planning and experience to accomplish your goals but just can’t climb that next plateau? The disciples likely felt the same.

Can you imagine the transformation wrought in their lives after heeding a simple request?

“Come, Follow Me!”

They experienced the electrifying atmosphere generated by tens of thousands thronging Jesus just for a touch. They felt the intense emotional pressure of Jesus’ last days before his death. They suffered through each agonizing pain-filled minute knowing Jesus lay in the tomb. They celebrated with exhilarating joy when Jesus appeared to them after His resurrection. The roller-coaster ride of emotions packed into three years must have felt like a lifetime. Even with this incredible experience, embarking upon their journey was impossible. The experience and knowledge had to be combined with power.

Jesus told the disciples, "you shall receive power after the Holy Spirit has come upon you". All the disciples’ plans, education and experiences would be like a vehicle with an engine but no transmission. Their preparation to change the world was impossible without the power made available by the Holy Spirit’s presence working through them. In the same way as you pursue goals to bring about change that leads to transformation, allow the Holy Spirit to work in and through you. Living the Holy Spirit-controlled life, combined with your training will guarantee that 2016 will be the best year ever!

QUOTE OF THE DAY: You’ll never change your life until you change something you do daily. The secret of your success is found in your daily routine.
