And Moses said to the people, “Do not be afraid. Stand still, and see the salvation of the Lord, which He will accomplish for you today.”
When we feel fear it is in our nature to respond in one of two ways: FIGHT or FLIGHT. And yet Moses’ instruction leaves no room for either. Typically when threatened we stand and fight or tuck and run—there is not in-between. And yet, Moses wanted them to hold their ground but so they could watch the battle and the victory on their behalf.
Running shows fear, therefore STANDING SHOWS FAITH. To STAND STILL when you are being chased goes against self-preservation but demonstrates a faith and security that must be demoralizing to any enemy. Although the stillness of the Children of Israel must have given the Egyptian army pause, it was God who ultimately stopped them for good.
STANDING STILL is the instruction but SEEING THE SALVATION is the reward.
Psalm 46 describes the lengths that God will go to— to fight our battles for us and win our peace. And then…
He says, “Be still, and know that I am God;
I will be exalted among the nations,
I will be exalted in the earth.”
It is God’s desire that we stand and see the deliverance He brings. He is fighting for us. How are we to KNOW if we never stop running from our enemy? How are we to SEE if we don’t STAND STILL?
He is a God that wants to be KNOWN. Celebrating His love and devotion for us is how we worship Him. Standing still and witnessing His strength in our lives shows our enemy our security is in THE LORD. We can be tempted to believe that the greatest way to show our faith is by fighting but submission to STILLNESS is a sign of a deeper knowledge and trust in God.
Father, I thank You that you deliver me from my enemies. I am not in this battle alone. I will not run out of fear of what the enemy might bring against my life. I will not allow the enemy to move me from my position of strength. I ask You to forgive me for the times that I try to fight my battles on my own. I will stand firm, be still and see Your salvation in my circumstances. I do not fear the outcome for You are with me, fighting for me. Thank you for allowing me to know you more. In the name of Jesus.  Amen!
STANDING by Covenant Worship is the perfect soundtrack for holding our ground today as we meditate on this message.
