DAY SIXTEEN - HOLD YOUR PEACE

Yesterday’s devotional spoke of distraction and how the enemy uses it to stall our progress toward our goals. We may overcome each act of opposition and retain our focus but still lose something valuable - OUR PEACE. How many times have we been blindsided by conflict, work through the issue, get things settled only to realize that after everything we have now lost our peace?

Like a butterfly that settles on a still and steady heart, peace is easily disturbed when we are moved by our enemies presence.

The CHILDREN OF ISRAEL escaped the oppression of Egypt only to be chased down in the desert by Pharoh’s chariots. When what they thought was settled and far behind them crept up again, their hearts melted in fear.

And Moses said to the people, “Do not be afraid. Stand still, and see the salvation of the Lord, which He will accomplish for you today. For the Egyptians whom you see today, you shall see again no more forever. The Lord will fight for you, and you shall hold your peace.” Exodus 14:13 (NKJV)

How familiar that scenario sounds! Not unlike the Children of Israel, we too escape our enemies worst plans to keep us in bondage only to find he has followed us from our past and is chasing us into the promised land. Exclamations like, “You have got to be kidding me!?!?!” and “NO WAY…NOT AGAIN!!!” clamor through our thoughts like lightening and thunder.

What do we do?

We follow Moses’ instruction.

#1. DON’T BE AFRAID.

Despite how it looks this will not follow you the rest of your life. Replace “Egyptians” from the verse above in the sentence below with the thing it seems you will never escape.

This promise is for YOU!

“For the ____________ you see today, you shall see again no more forever.”

Father, I thank you that your desire for your children is that we have perfect peace when our minds are focused on you! When we can hold our peace, YOU will fight our battles! You are the Prince of Peace. You walk with us thru the valley of confusion and despair. My prayer today is that You, the God of peace, will rise. Rise in great authority over our enemies. Cause them to scatter and run!! Lord, destroy those things that INVADE OUR PEACE! In the name of Jesus!! Amen!

STEADY MY HEART by Kari Jobe will give you the words for today to strengthen you so you are able to HOLD YOUR PEACE.
