SOMETHING TO SMILE ABOUT

How well God must like you-
you don’t hang out at Sin Saloon,
you don’t slink along Dead-End Road,
you don’t go to Smart-Mouth College.

Instead you thrill to God’s Word,
you chew on Scripture day and night.
You’re a tree replanted in Eden,
bearing fresh fruit every month,
Never dropping a leaf, always in blossom.

Psalms 1:1-2 (Message)

Do you know anyone who doesn’t want a life filled with love and happiness? It’s true, everyone desires to live a life where relationships are healthy, finances are sound and the future is bright. Experiencing a blessed life is possible when we have the right foundation; the writer of Psalms shows us that the key to a happy and fruitful life is when we delight and meditate on God’s ways every day. How is that possible?

Reading and applying the principles and precepts found in Scripture teaches us to discern good from evil. In the light of Scripture, the moral choices, colored by shades of gray from our perspective , become the definitive black and white absolutes from God’s perspective. Embedded in our hearts, His Word enables us to recognize wise counsel that leads to good choices (right behavior) that bring the fullness of His blessing to our lives. And THAT is definitely something to smile about!

For 21 DAYS, we have committed to set ourselves aside in some way. Many have chosen to limit or eliminate familiar foods, background noise and the unnecessary distractions that can take time and attention away from the intentionality of a new year. Whatever you have chosen to add or subtract from your daily schedule be sure to remember that it is a personal decision. What one feels strongly about, another may not see as significant. It is important that our fasting choices don’t become a competition or means of comparison.

Each of us has a PURPOSE and a PRAYER FOCUS for this time of dedication.

Our challenge today is to use our awareness of those around us as a means of bringing encouragement. If you know someone who made it known that they were limiting or eliminating something for 21 DAYS, would you take a moment and send them a text, email or note of encouragement?

We are in this together and what a lovely way to put a smile on someone’s face today by the simple act of acknowledging their efforts. When we encourage one another we can’t help but be reminded that if other’s see our devotion- we know that God surely does. Remember, 2016 is a year of divine connections- getting together and strengthening our relationships one to another and toward God…THAT IS SOMETHING TO SMILE ABOUT!
