Genesis 1:1, 26-27
In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth.
Then God said, “Let us make mankind in our image, in our likeness, so that they may rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky, over the livestock and all the wild animals, and over all the creatures that move along the ground.” So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them.
The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and instruction.
Blessed is the one who does not walk in step with the wicked or stand in the way that sinners take or sit in the company of mockers, but whose delight is in the law of the Lord, and who meditates on His law day and night.
She will give birth to a son, and you are to give Him the name Jesus, because He will save His people from their sins.” All this took place to fulfill what the Lord had said through the prophet: “The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel” (which means “God with us”).
Today, we have the perfect plan to start a new year and it's all been written for us by our loving Father. He is the one who gave Stephen Covey the great idea to "begin with the end in mind," because that is exactly what God did. The first line of the Bible is "In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth." The last line is, "the grace of the Lord Jesus be with God's people. Amen." His two-step plan could not be more straightforward. God created us in His image, so that we could understand and receive His grace. Everything between the beginning and the end is His continuous efforts to build a relationship with us. From His perfect Word to the Holy Spirit making us conscious of our need for a Savior, He never stops reaching out to us. God's two-step plan for us is to know Him and to receive Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior. God's plan does not produce "better people," it produces "faithful people.” It's up to us to follow His plan. By God’s grace, we will delight ourselves in His Word, because that is His perfect plan.
1) Spend a few minutes reflecting on the truth that you are created in God’s image.
2) How does that knowledge change your opinion of yourself?
3) What will you do differently today because you know that God has a perfect plan for you?
