Yesterday’s devotional spoke of distraction and how the enemy uses it to stall our progress toward our goals. We may overcome each act of opposition and retain our focus but still lose something valuable - OUR PEACE.

Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding;
in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.
Trusting God and leaning on Him for the answers you need is the most liberating way to SIMPLIFY your life. Seeking Him to help define what needs to be added to our lives and what should be removed- will greatly reduce our stress over the many decisions we must make to move forward each day toward our goal.
BUSY-SICKNESS, TIME-POVERTY, CAREER CONFUSION, LACK OF FULFILLMENT are all debilitating reasons for choosing to SIMPLIFY our lives. This should not be a temporary focus but a shift toward intentionality that lasts.
Key ingredients in the RECIPE FOR SIMPLICITY:
- WRITE DOWN HOW YOU SPEND MOST OF YOUR TIME
- CIRCLE ACTIVITIES YOU WANT TO LIMIT
- LIMIT DECISIONS THAT TAX YOUR ATTENTION: FOOD, MEDIA, PERSONAL APPOINTMENTS
- PURSUE THINGS THAT FEED YOUR SOUL
- LET YOUR IMAGINATION SOAR ON IDEAS FOR HOW YOU COULD DO MORE OF WHAT YOU LOVE TO DO.
- FORMULATE GOALS
- WRITE ACTIONABLE STEPS
- HONOR YOUR FEELINGS (WHAT YOU LIKE AND DON’T LIKE)
- BREAK OUT OF THE FAMILIAR
Following the recipe above, begin to imagine and describe what a day in your life might look like when you are living out your dreams. This description is a “VISION STATEMENT” that should inspire and invigorate you. Include all the important areas and relationships and how they “feel to you” in that future space. This exercise is not unlike asking someone, “Where do you see me in five years?” BECAUSE IN EVERY SENSE THIS IS OUR PRAYER TODAY. We are asking Him exactly that. Let’s join Pastor Kathy’s powerful focused prayer of agreement as we seek His direction for His vision for our lives and future.
Father, my Most High God; you are my direction.
You give me focus and follow through! Everything that would distract me from the greater goal must go in the name of Jesus! According to Romans 8:28....
Thank You for making everything that's happened in my life whether negative or positive work for my good. Release the right words to me so I can be ready to share my story that will give you Glory! I am made an overcomer by the word of my testimony.
In Jesus name! Amen!!
EVERY VISION STATEMENT SHOULD BE:
QUOTE of the DAY: IF YOU CAN’T EXPLAIN IT SIMPLY, YOU DON’T UNDERSTAND IT WELL ENOUGH. - ALBERT EINSTEIN
We are instructed by God to write out our vision-message so that it can be READ ON THE RUN. But that doesn’t mean that we write it on the run. It takes some dedicated time to seek and to SEE the vision so that we are able to...
AND GOD ANSWERED: “WRITE THIS.”
WRITE WHAT YOU SEE.
WRITE IT OUT IN BIG BLOCK LETTERS
SO THAT IT CAN BE READ ON THE RUN.
THIS VISION-MESSAGE IS A WITNESS
POINTING TO WHAT’S COMING.
IT ACHES FOR THE COMING—IT CAN HARDLY WAIT!
AND IT DOESN’T LIE. IF IT SEEMS SLOW IN COMING, WAIT.
IT’S ON ITS WAY.
IT WILL COME RIGHT ON TIME.
Habakkuk 2:3 (The Message)
We are instructed by God to write out our vision-message so that it can be READ ON THE RUN. But that doesn’t mean that we write it on the run. It takes some dedicated time to seek and to SEE the vision so that we are able to write it, read it and run with it!
On this beautiful Saturday, perhaps you can take a few moments to invest in beginning to put pen to paper. This is the year of DIVINE CONNECTION. Here are some first steps for putting a fine point to some important details in pursuing our highest calling. Resist the urge to be overwhelmed. Any progress you make today is a BIG WIN!
Let’s begin with formulating a MISSION STATEMENT.
EVERY MISSION STATEMENT SHOULD BE:
- ONE SENTENCE
- EASILY UNDERSTOOD BY A 12 YEAR OLD
- ABLE TO BE RECITED AT GUNPOINT :)
MISSION STATEMENT MYTHS:
- IT ISN’T YOUR JOB DESCRIPTION.
- IT’S NOT A ROLE OR RELATIONSHIP.
- IT’S NOT A TO-DO LIST
IMAGERY- A MISSION STATEMENT COMES FROM A PLACE OF ABUNDANCE- NOT LACK. So as you begin to think over the words you could use, visualize yourself in the future, in a position to meet a need, to right a wrong. You will make a difference from a place of authority in a particular arena or influence in a certain culture.
LANGUAGE- With the images you have in mind, begin to search out adjectives that energize and excite you. You can google them, use a dictionary or make a list of the ones you already know. The adjectives that make you happy to say out loud are the ones that will shed light on your mission as a whole. Using the IMAGERY we asked you to visualize of yourself in the future- use as many of your favorite adjectives to describe how you see yourself fulfilling that vision (mental picture).
It seems a daunting task to ask ourselves, “What do I see?” as we frame our mission statement. We are forcing our eyes to open to the possibilities of all God is preparing us for and preparing for us. Remind yourself that no one will see your MISSION STATEMENT until you are finished. Receive God’s permission from the verse above- to WRITE WHAT YOU SEE. This is a very powerful step in seeing what you have written ultimately leave the page and fill your life with purpose and power.
Pastor Kathy Hayes wrote a beautiful prayer for us to put ourselves in agreement with as we press through any negative thoughts that could hinder fulfilling God’s request to write the vision.
Father, in the name of Jesus...You know my frame. I believe and declare, that in this new dedication of focus and #Goals, I am taking you at Your Word.
All things are possible to them that believe. I believe that I'm a new creature in Christ Jesus and old things have passed away and behold all things are becoming new! Everyday my purpose is becoming clearer. I give you Glory for all the wonderful changes that are happening in my life.
In the spirit of visual imagery today we want to share a beautiful time we captured with The Covenant Worship Team.
QUOTE of the Day: GOD LOVES WITH A GREAT LOVE THE ONE WHOSE HEART IS BURSTING WITH A PASSION FOR THE IMPOSSIBLE. - General Willam Booth

Not long after the Old Testament prophet Elijah called down fire from Heaven upon the evil enemies of God, he found himself running for his life and running FROM HIS LIFE.
How could such a high moment lead to such a low one? What could have happened to cause such a dramatic transition?
After the Prophet Elijah put Queen Jezebel’s pagan high priests to death, she made a vow to take the prophet's life. She sent a messenger to let him know her threat. It is interesting to note that she could have sent a mercenary instead of a messenger. Why not just take his life? Why did she tell him her plans for his destruction instead of just carrying them out?
She could’ve just killed him but instead she sought to devalue and discredit him. Taking his life would’ve made him a martyr. To truly win the spiritual battle she was seeking, she needed to get him to run. It worked.
HE FLED. HE LEFT HIS POST. HE FORFEITED VICTORY. HE FAILED.
Elijah failed to uproot the demonically driven principality which was the authority of Queen Jezebel. His emotional defeat was too much and sent him running for the hills. He kept moving until he found a place to stop and sat under a broom tree. A broom tree, also known as a Juniper tree, offered no shade and cast off very sharp needles. His chosen place of rest wasn’t very restful. It would’ve been more of a punishment than a blessing to lie beneath a broom tree. A bed of stickers beneath him and the sun beating down on his head. Any of us would question the wisdom in that.
But isn’t it true that most us don’t make wise decisions when we are discouraged?
Not unlike Elijah, we are also vulnerable to unwise environments when we are discouraged. Elijah was processing the layers of delay, fear, exhaustion, failure and DISCOURAGEMENT. He had been a faithful servant of God but had fallen to fatigue. There is nothing more discouraging than giving everything you have, doing all you know to do and still feeling the eminent threat of your enemy. We are more susceptible to weariness when we are doing the right things than at any other time.
And let us not grow weary in doing good,
for in due season we will reap if we do not lose heart.
~ Galatians 6:9 (New King James Version)
Something to think about: HAVE I ALLOWED PHYSICAL OR EMOTIONAL FATIGUE MAKE DECISIONS FOR ME?
We lose heart, focus and vision for our future when we are discouraged. Allow this prayer of agreement written by Pastor Kathy Hayes to bring restoration and clarity.
Father, You are my comfort, You are my strength. Release Your empowerment when I feel weary in well-doing. I choose today to focus on Philippians 4:8. I will think on things that are true, pure, noble, lovely and worthy of praise. This one thing I will do - I will look forward. I know that you see me right where I am and You will bring me up and out! I give you thanks for raising me. I declare that my eyes will no longer rest on my circumstances or on my enemy but they are set on You my everlasting, great God! I will focus on the prize of my high calling in Christ Jesus!!
Here’s a great song to remind us today that discouragement won’t last but that HE is EVERLASTING GOD (Fellowship Church).
